“ Don’t you know a small charming hotel, not too expensive, sympathetic….? ” Classic question when people go to Paris. I made a small selection from 1998 on. and visited the places incognito. Here are my loves at first sight. This site has been completely updated last month, September 2004.

Hotel prices may have increased 20 % since 2000.

Charm hotels in Paris for less than 110

Prices are per room, anno 2004.  They have increased 20 percent since ancient prices were from the season 1997-1998. You can always ask if they have also triples or a rollaway bed.

Grand Hotel Jeanne d'Arc, 3 rue de Jarente tel 0148876211 4th arrondissement
In the heart of the Marais section, a few steps from the place Ste.Catherine, in a delicious, quiet street, a beautiful 17th century house turned into a charming hotel. At the entrance a mosaic of the Jeanne d'Arc coat of arms welcomes you right away. Intelligent mixture of ancient and modern the small lobby's walls are decorated by a starry sky. The rooms, which have different sizes, have been redone so they are comfortable cosy, with new sanitary, equipped with TV, shower or bath and phone. Blue pastel colours and salmon coloured with some rooms having a view on the roofs of Paris, like no.16. Doubles from 99 € with shower and WC.

Hotel des Grandes Ecoles , 75, rue du Cardinal-Lemoine, 5th arr. tel 0143267923 fax 0143252815
This hotel is a pearl!! Imagine 2 beautiful houses pale rose from the 19th century facing each other. The countryside in the heart of Paris ! Unbelievable! Situated in a private alley just a stone  throw from de place de la Contrescarpe ( see my post about!) this hotel is in fact a charming house with character, a verdant garden very agreeable in the summer in
the shadow of the tulip-trees and a paved courtyard. The rooms with a little old-fashioned wallpaper, have a real countryside look. Idyllic ! Notice that the rooms have an old-fashioned charm.
Advised room : no.114, for her balcony. Smiling reception and 48 rooms  with shower or bath and WC, carefully kept and arranged with taste, between 90 and 114 €. It is necessary to reserve long in advance, this hotel  being one of the favorite places of Americans in love with Paris. TV freaks should avoid this hotel :-), NO TV in the rooms. We are here to savor this magnificent place , not to watch “The Wheel of fortune “ !

Hotel de l’Esperance, 15, rue Pascal, 5th arr.tel 0147071099. fax0143375619
This is an address not to miss ! In a rather quiet street near the very animated rue Mouffetard (see my post about this area! /Paris/ParisHtml/Paris_Visit_5tharr_Lutece_Mouffetard.htm  ) here is a little 2 star hotel worth a 3 star. Two little patios were camellias and Japanese cherry-trees blossom. Madame Aymard in her jovial Spanish accent, and her husband welcomes you in this hotel with 38 elegant little rooms with marble bath-rooms, assorted tissues and most beds are with baldachin Rooms are blue, rose or yellow. Baldachin beds assorted to the flower curtains. Advised room : no.62, quiet and bathing in sunlight. Doubles with shower and WC for 56 €, with bath and WC. for 61 €, the most beautiful and best situated for 84.50 €. Hair-dryer, satellite TV, direct phone. The ground floor of this hotel also is very cute: charming little garden for breakfasts in the nice season.

Hotel du Levant, 18 rue de la Harpe 5th arr tel 0146341100 fax
0146342587
Small paved street, very quite, considering that the quartier Latin
and quartier Saint-Michel are just around the corner!
A long time family-run hotel, classical music as soon as you arrive in
the lobby. This comfortable and charming house will receive you in
one of its 46 rooms well equipped with satellite TV and direct phone.
Rooms on the 6th floor look out on Notre Dame and have a small
balcony. Doubles for 110 € with shower, WC, breakfast and taxes
included.

Hotel du Danube, 58 rue Jacob 6th arr tel 0142603470
In the heart of Saint-Germain des Prés, a hotel housed in a
nineteenth-century building with a British scent floats in the air.
Intimate setting, offers variety in its style.
The entrance leads you into a patio where, as soon as weather allows,
breakfast or coffee is served. The small salon has its walls with
flowered chintz, large canned couches. The rooms are standard, but
with nice pastel colours, either traditional French or Chinese in
decoration. Some have French windows overlooking the pretty interior
courtyard complete with colonnaded porch. Doubles from 100 € on.

Hotel du Lys, 23 rue Serpente; 6th arr.tel 0143269757. fax 0144073490
High ceilings, beams, black and white pavements…the charm of the houses of the 17th century. The hotel exhales a familial ambience. Most of the rooms are covered wit ravishing flower tissue. The rooms in the front are the best. Two of them have a terrace. Advised rooms : no.17 provencal and no.18, particularly cozy. No.9 gives on a courtyard, with Souleiado bed covers which offers a great harmony with the wall paper.97 € for two, breakfast included. No credit cards accepted, though.

Hotel du Globe, 15, rue des Quatre-Vents, 6th arr.tel 0143263550 fax 0146331729.
In the St-Germain-des-Pres district, a nice building of the 16th century  houses this charm hotel with this oak beams and stone walls. Here the ambiance is medieval with the old stone walls. At the ground floor, admire the Louis XV armchairs and the impressive armor. In the basement, a well dating back from the Philippe Auguste walls. The rooms with beamed ceilings have their particular atmosphere, but I have a preference for no.1 (baldachin bed) and no.15. The rooms are all different one from the other.  TV and phone in every room. 80 € bath with private bathroom.

Hotel du Champ de Mars, 7, rue du Champ de Mars, 7th arr.tel 0145515230
One of my favourites!!!! A pretty green facade , English style, is very inviting. A relaxed and family atmosphere all year round.  The walls of the rooms are covered with large-striped paper, “ton sur ton “ ( shade on shade). All comfort ,either bathtub or shower, in the rooms, but they are a little small, which is normal. But plenty of room to move J. Unfortunately the breakfast room with stone walls is in the cellar. Advised room : no.44 for the view on the trees. Just behind the corner you have the daily open street market from the rue du Cle,  one of the liveliest and best known in Paris.Room with shower, TV 66 €- 72 € , double room large bed with 72 €  double room twin beds with bath 76 €, triple room with bath 92 €.One disadvantage. The hotel is constantly sold out! Many Americans....So reserve long in advance!

Hotel du Muguet, 11 rue Chevert 7th arr. Tel 0147050593
Located in a unique part of Paris, the 7th arrondissement, nearby the Eiffel Tower, Trocadero and the Invalides, Hotel Muguet has something provincial in its atmosphere. As well as in the décor of the dining room as the flowered patio. The 45 entirely renovated rooms are on the small side, but impeccable, with assorted wall papers, pink, yellow, sky blue, warmth and comfortable with direct phone, satellite television, hair-dryer and safe deposit. The most charming are on the upper floor, with roof windows looking out on the Eiffel tower (no.62 or the Invalides (no.63). Doubles go from 89 € on. The area is unique. Next to the rue Cler, the Eiffel tower, the Invalides, Trocadero.

New Orient Hotel, 16, rue de Constantinople, 8th arr.tel 0145222164.
Maintained with care, you feel home .All over the hotel there you have antique furniture.
The rooms are cozy and tender with ensuite bathroom and toilet. Direct dialling telephone, television with satellite channels and canal +.The breakfast rooms are charming with willow chairs and the little wooden bar genre “old café”. Advised rooms : no.18 and 8 who have both a balcony. From 66 to 89 €.

Hotel Beaumarchais, 3, rue Oberkampf, 11th arr.tel 0153368686
Good location, this small hotel is very design. Yellow walls, leather chairs, , metallic spiral stairs, you can feel that the manager is a former architect. Contemporary paintings and murano bed-side lamps. You find the same design in the rooms, with the sunny yellow walls, bed covers and drapes in raspberry colour. Sound proof for the street rooms. If  you hate noise, try to book room no.2., quite, spacious looking out on the courtyard

The breakfast room looks out on a very green patio with a superb camellia. From 66 to 100
.

Hotel Boileau,  81 rue Boileau 16th arr.tel  01.42.88.83.74 fax 01.45.27.62.98
Situated in the elegant 16th arrondissement Close to the Trocadero and the Champs Elysées.  A very luminous breakfast room on a flourished patio. Some rooms have been redone lately.A good point for the white tiled bathrooms, very agreeable. Advised room : no.201, quiet, looks out on  a very nice courtyard. From 66 € to 85 € as well as the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre, it is ideal for a business trip.

Hotel Vert Galant, 4, rue Croulebarbe, 13 th arr.tel 0144088350   . Fax 01 44 08 83 50
A piece of the countryside, a piece of paradise! In the heart of Paris. La Butte aux Cailles is not far. In this hotel looking as a villa, all the rooms are pale yellow or blue, furnished in the 1930’s style. All ( but one) look out on a garden, very agreeable when the nice days return. Advised room : no.1 the only room for 67 € accessing directly into the garden. From 67 to 77 €.

Hotel Delambre, 35 rue Delambre 14th arr. Tel 0143206631 fax
0145389176
A charm hotel entirely renovated in a stylish manner. Warm atmosphere
and cosy rooms in dominant yellow, blue and brick red. Andre Breton
was their favourite client once. The furniture and beds are in wood,
rooms are a little bit on the small size but equipped with all comfort
of a three stars. Room no.7 has a private Doubles go from 78 € up.

Hotel Prima Lepic, 29 rue Lepic, 18th arr.tel 0146064464 fax 0146066611
In Montmartre. Entirely renovated, it is the ideal starting point for the walks in the area. Very near to the impasse Marie-Blanche on which I have a little crush on;-). The entrance has a still-life deception of an English garden that gives the whole an atmosphere of freshness. Adorable rooms style Laura Ashley,  refined and full of charm Advised room: no.16. To avoid, rooms 110 and 17, very dark. The owner could be a bit more sympathetic but the staff is very helpful and friendly. From 92 to 107 €.
